Among many others, the offset printing industry is one of the most complex and difficult to manage. Each product is different from any another doe to its size and features, but also for the raw materials used and the processing steps. Even the smallest difference can make a large variation in production costs.

In 2004 the building up of a software capable to create quotetions for self-adhesive labels printed in reels was commissioned to us. Because of the technology used within our client company (Windows, OSX, Linux), we decided to develop our software using the web technologies.

Our target was to create a management software that did not require installation, that could be able to update on its own, be used on any device and be ready for the technologies to come.

Gutenberg ERP was developed with the following goal: to minimize human intervention and errors.

  • The estimator allows to easily compare production costs with different technologies and print formats.
  • Quotations, calculations and estimate of the production costs of books, calendars, catalogs, magazines and products with offset printing or digital printing.

  • Gerp checks delivery dates, estimated costs and stock availability.
  • Automation of order confirmations sent by email and generation of production orders.

  • Data collection from the PC connected to the machine in manual or automatic mode (with industry 4.0 connected machines).
  • The data collected are shown in real time on the dashboard used for job scheduling.
  • Measurement of final balances in real time, collection of data in linear meters, machine strokes or pieces produced.
  • Traceability of raw materials by supplier's barcode, oridentification labels of the batches in the warehouse.

  • When the final product is loaded into the warehouse the shipping office is noticed to proceed to prepare and issue transport documents.
  • Automatic filing of transport documents with customer’s order number, production lot number, reel packaging data, certification data (eg. FSC certification).
  • Management and enhancement of semi-finished products.
Final balance analysis

Final balance analysis

  • Control and analysis of expected costs with actual data collection from the PC connected to the machine.
  • The final balance analysis tool can correlate technical characteristics of products with customer orders, productions on a single machine or a specific format.
  • It is possible to export all the data of the various reports in CSV format, compatible with Microsoft Excel and OpenOffice.

Gutenberg ERP (also known as Gerp) is developed on LAMP platform (Linux, Apache, MySql / MariaDB, PHP) and maintained according to the state of the art for the Agile Software Developing, with frequent updates, quick modifications and customer request satisfaction. Our software house developes using a Subversion version control and PhpUnit and Jenkins automatic tests for updates on our trial server. Applications with billions of users like Facebook, Etsy and Yahoo! use the same technology.
