Folder-Gluer Process (Folding and Gluing)

The folder-gluer process is the converting stage in cartonboard manufacturing in which a flat die-cut blank is folded along pre-scored crease lines and glued at designated bonding points to form its final three-dimensional structure.

Technical Description

After printing and die-cutting, the flat carton blank is fed into a folder-gluer machine that:

• performs pre-breaking of crease lines to prevent cracking
• folds panels and flaps according to the structural layout
• applies adhesive (typically PVA cold glue or hot-melt)
• compresses and conveys the finished cartons to the delivery section

The result is a carton that is either flat-packed or partially erected, ready for shipment or filling operations.
