The Advanced Shipping Notice (ASN) is an electronic document generated by the warehouse management software that is sent to the recipient of the goods to provide him information on the goods in the shipment.
ASN may contain more information than the ones normally included in a transport document, such as:
ASN allows companies to quicken the steps of goods registration in the warehouse and relieve operators from the task of manually entering data, preventing every possible human error. Furthermore, it allows companies to verify in a much accurate way that the order sent by the supplier actually is what they received.
In order to take advantage of warehouse management via ASN, both warehouses (the outgoing one of the supplier and the incoming one of the recipient company) must be digitized and managed through a WMS (Warehouse Management Software), such as Gerp.
