The external diameter of a reel it can be determined by the spiral formula, using the number of pieces (labels) present in each reel, as well as the total thickness (paper + glassine) of its material. It’s the customers’ needs that determines the number of pieces that will be in each reel. This is usually decided in the estimation phase. In some cases, instead of providing the number of pieces for each reel, customers prefer to define a maximum range of external diameter. Using one of the two data is possible to define the other one.
Using our “Calculate the number of labels on the reel” tool it’s possible to determine the external diameter of the reel by entering the number of pieces and other data such as the diameter and thickness of the core, the total thickness, as well as the pitch and gap between the labels.
